Aston Martin DB4 Series IV Convertible Special Series Vantage

The DB4 represented a major step in the evolution of Aston Martin road cars. It combined a totally new 3.7-litre engine, developed by Tadek Marek, with a modern chassis. The technical package was completed with wishbone suspension, Dunlop disc brakes all round, and more precise rack-and-pinion steering. The beautiful, elegant body was designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan and built using the special Superleggera process (aluminium skin on a steel rib frame) at Tickford in Newport Pagnell.

The Aston Martin DB4 was built in five series from 1958 to 1963. From the fourth series in 1962 onwards, the body became slightly higher and longer to provide more interior room. Buyers could also order a "Special Series Vantage" variant, which featured an engine with not two but three SU carburettors, and 25 hp more power.

A convertible model was introduced in 1962. As only 70 were ever built – 30 in the fourth series and 40 in the fifth – these cars are extremely desirable today.

This Aston Martin DB4 Convertible is special. Only 11 DB4 convertibles were ordered new with the more powerful Special Series engine from the fourth series. The vehicle on offer is one of them and still has the original engine.
